Commitment

Can I get a mix of Committed and On-Demand (Overage) Cores?

Yes, Committed and On-Demand Cores can be mixed together.

Can I increase the number of Committed Cores during the 3 years?

Yes, the commitment can be increased on a monthly basis without extending the original 3-year contract term, meaning the duration remains unchanged. However, reducing the commitment is not possible within the 3-year period.

Why is the Usage Meter still needed for commitments?

The Usage Meter is utilized for reporting to Broadcom and Xelon. Now, the physical cores in the clusters are measured and reported. Based on this reporting, the On-Demand (Overage) CPU Cores are then billed accordingly.

Onboarding

How does reporting work?

What does your setup/onboarding package include?

This includes setup, configuration of the Usage Meter and the adaptation of license keys. We expect onboarding to take around 1-2 hours.

Technical information

Can I limit the number of CPU Cores in the BIOS in order to require fewer licenses?

How do I get access to product downloads as a Xelon whitelabeling customer?

New releases are made available by us.

Can a cluster with VCSP licenses and a second cluster with subscription licenses be licensed in the same vCenter or must this be done in two separate vCenters?

Yes, this is possible. VCF licenses are reported via a Usage Meter instance. This can be set up at any hierarchy level (e.g. vCenter, Datacenter, Folder, Cluster, Host, ...).

We are currently using vSphere 7.0, do we need to upgrade to vSphere 8.0?

No, this is not a requirement for licensing.

Commercial information

What requirements do I have to meet to participate in the new Xelon Whitelabeling Program?

The only requirements for this are that the customer registers as a 'VCSP Registered tier' under the 'Broadcom Advantage Program Partner' and that reporting is done through Xelon. Customers can register through https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeBJqIbIqosW79z8RW4HBZle1H6O-YKKUsKw7pje_q9GHbLcw/viewform.

What is the difference between Committed Cores and On-Demand (Overage) Cores?

Is there a minimum number of CPU Cores that I have to license per CPU?

Yes, at least 16 cores must be licensed per physical CPU.

How does the support work?

L1 & L2 support cases can be opened with us if required. Support is charged on a time and material basis. L3 cases can be opened by us at Broadcom.

How is April reported/licensed?

A mandatory upgrade to Usage Meter 4.8 is required by April 1. From April through May, you can use your contracted quota as normal. We will continue to accept data from all Usage Meter instances, regardless of whether the contract has expired (with the exception of versions prior to 4.4). In May, if you have a contract with a white label Primary VCSP, your contracted core volume with the Primary VCSP will be backdated to April usage (this is part of the Primary VCSP's overall commitment to Broadcom, for which they are responsible). The backdated usage has no overage and is based only on your future usage rate. Your primary provider will implement their own instance of Usage Meter as early as possible.

Do I have to purchase a minimum number of CPU cores?

No, we do not have a minimum purchase quantity.

Which hosts need to be licensed?

All hosts on which activated VMs are operated must be licensed, including vCenter, vCLS and NSX instances. When using vSAN, all vSAN-enabled hosts must be licensed, regardless of whether a powered-on VM is running on them or not. Hosts that are in maintenance mode, are switched off via DPM or are used as an SRM target do not need to be licensed.

With vSAN, does the total available storage or the used storage have to be licensed?

The entire available vSAN storage must be licensed.

What about the licenses for vROPS, NSX, vCenter, etc. can they all still be used as before? Or are additional licenses required here?

The following products are included per core in VCF:

Does Xelon have a designated GDPR?
