We'll explain you how to create and manage a Network in Xelon HQ.
Xelon HQ allows you to segment and structure your network in multiple ways. You can directly assign a Public Network (WAN) to your server, or deploy your server into LAN or DMZ networks and further segment them to secure your infrastructure.
In order to connect your infrastructure to the Internet, you can either set up the HQ Firewall Service that automatically comes with a dedicated Public IP, or create a WAN subnet (/29 or bigger) and use a Dedicated WAN to assign an IP address from.
For security reasons, we recommend to use Gateway Firewalls and deploy your Linux and Windows Servers into LAN. It adds another layer of security to your infrastructure, and you have a central entry point, which makes it easier to control and manage your system.
Difference between WAN, LAN, and Shared Networks
These three types of networks have some important differences you need to know before setting them up.
- WAN networks are public/external networks; if you add a /29 subnet you will get 5 usable public IPs.
- LAN networks are private/internal networks; you can't access them without any router.
- Shared Network is a network that is being shared from one organization to another; they're used for managing networks from a reseller to the end customer.
Create and manage LAN Network
- Go to Networking > All Networks tab > Create Network button
- Select the organization, Network type (LAN), and define networking details.
- The Gateway usually has a
.01
at the end of address. - DNS servers will be automatically added to all servers you add to this network.
- 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are Google's Anycast DNS servers and are safe to use.
After creation, you'll be able to access your Network's dashboard, where you can add and remove IPs, delete them, and edit the Network's details.
Create and manage WAN Network
- Go to Networking > All Networks tab > Create Network button
- Select the organization, Network type (WAN), and define networking details.
The subnet size /29 comes with 5 useable IP's.
After creation, you'll be able to access your Network's dashboard, where you can add and remove IPs, delete them, and edit the Network's details.
