IaaS models and how they work for my business | Blog | Xelon AG

Everything used to be better, is that true? A company had to purchase, operate and maintain its own servers for your computing and work performance. Today, that's no longer necessary, thanks to Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS for short). The capacities, or workloads, are simply outsourced externally and obtained as a service. In form and color individually as it is needed. How can my company benefit from the advantages of these IaaS models?

Infrastructure as a service offers a wide range of advantages for the most diverse areas. For the production environment, i.e. the environment on which people actively work, there is faster access for users, helps to reduce costs, shortens cycle times, fulfils compliance requirements and improves quality. The replication environment, i.e. a copy of the production environment, protects against failures and increases the continuity of operations. In the event of a disaster, such as a complete system failure, the disaster recovery environment helps. A scaled-down version of the entire production infrastructure available on a standby basis in another location. This offsite infrastructure reduces downtime and saves the cost of operating a parallel second identical infrastructure.

We hold fast IaaS is a good thing! But what cloud types are there and which of these IaaS models is right for my business?

Public IaaS Cloud - Overview IaaS Models

The classic cloud computing model. Hardware resources are made available virtually to a broad public. Simple to set up and operate, it is scalable and users are only charged for what they use (pay-as-you-go). The most common uses for this cloud service are server hosting, storage services, office applications and webmail. Here you can find all information about our public cloud products.

Private IaaS Cloud - Overview IaaS Models

As the name suggests, this model is only available for one customer. In other words, resources are not shared with several parties. This model is recommended for large environments with clearly defined compliance requirements.

Hybrid IaaS Cloud

This model combines the two cloud services explained above. Thus, sensitive data can be outsourced to the private cloud and all other services run via the public cloud.

Which IaaS model makes the most sense varies from case to case, or better from customer to customer. What is apparent, however, is that the classic on-premise infrastructure, with the requirements mentioned in the first part of the article, has difficulties. You have to make high investments and run them with a high administrative effort. This can lead to existential problems for companies that have to adapt to the requirements of the market again and again. Therefore the IaaS concept offers many advantages for companies.
